The table illustrates the employment patterns for man and women in New Zealand from 1993 to 2003.
Overall, information technology was the most popular sector for males in both years, whereas this sector has the least female employments. However, for women, the highest figures recorded in service sector, for both years.
In terms of men, information technology had the most employees in both years even tough the figure fell from 80% in 1993 to 70% in 2003. Similarly, farming was the second most common job, with 75% in 1993 and 65% in 2003. The figures for manufacturing and building were 55% and 68%, respectively, and they declined over the period to around 55%, overall. Services increased from 14% in 1993 to 40% in 2003 but still was the least job that had men employees. Likewise, commerce sector started the period with 45% and rose to 50% in 2003.
Regarding females, the most common sector was services with, 85% in 1993, although the figure declined by 2003 to 60%. Building increased slightly from 45% to 48%, and manufacturing grew 8% by the end of the period. Farming was the second least common job for women with, 25% in 1993 and 35% in 2003. In addition information technology sector also increased 10% from 1993 to 2003. In comparison, commercing sector declined from 55% to 50% over the time given.
