The table illustrates the health expenditure of five different countries in 2002. Overall, it could be seen that the total spending in France was the highest figures while Japan’s total expenditure was the lowest. Moreover, public spending accounted for a larger proportion than private spending in all five countries.
During 2002, France recorded the highest total health spending, at 11,4%, which was much higher than the second-highest : Germany. France mainly allocated for public spending, at 8.6% while the percentage of private spending was lower, at 2.8%. However, the proportion of private spending in France was substantially higher than other countries in the same aspect. In the second-highest country, Germany’s public spending and private expenditure were approximately at 7% and 2.3%, respectively.
In contrast, Japan and Italy were the two lowest proportion of the total health expenditure in 2002, at 7.2 % and 7.7%, respectively. However, the percentage of public expenditure in Italy was lower 0.5 percentage points than Japan, meanwhile its private spending was higher 1.0 percentage points than Japan. Besides, the USA was the third-lowest country of all 5 different countries which had 8.6% total health expenditure.
