The data reports the quantity of fresh fish caught and imported into the Australian city of Perth between 2004 and 2014.
Overall, we observe a clear increase in the total volume of fresh fish brought into Perth from 2004 to 2014. Notably, both the number of local catches, and the number of imports have doubled since the start of the given period.
During the first 4 years, the total volume of fish found in Perth grew steadily, starting at 3142.2 tons in 2004, and reaching 6532.7 in 2007. In 2008, Perth saw its biggest increase with an additional 2300 metric tons of fresh fish compared to the previous year. After it peaked, the number declined and ultimately plateaued at around 5800 to reach the volume of 5814.7 metric tons in 2014.
Both local catches and imports increased during the given period, maintaining approximately the same ratio of imports over local catches of around 1/5 – 1/6. Notably, the massive increase of 2008 is not as noticeable in the two raw categories as it is in the total category.
