In general, cycling was one of the most favored sports, which is chosen mostly in Australia, whereas tennis experienced the least participants. Nonetheless, cycling deteriorated the static proportion mostly. In contrast, tennis evolved significantly and ranked as the second most engaging sport just below running.
On the one hand, running not only enjoyed a remarkable upsurge from 1.4 to 2.2 million but also had an impressive rise. Aerobics and tennis both experienced sequential growth, with aerobics shooting up to 1.7 from 1.5 million, and tennis climbing from 1 to 1.2 million participants, corresponding to increases of 11% and 20%, respectively.
On the other hand, despite being the most popular sport in 2001, it (swimming) took a nosedive with a drastic dip from 4.5 to 3.6 million, a 20% drop. Swimming bore resemblance to cycling, as it saw a downturn, plunging by 10% to 3.3 from an initial 3.7 million participants.
