The table illustrates how many individuals took part in physical activities in Australia between 2001 and 2009
Overall, those participating in running, aerobics, and tennis witnessed an upward trend, contrasting the remaining activities seeing a downward pattern. Notably, individuals engaging in cycling observed the highest figure in Australia during the examined period despite a significant decrease.
As can be seen from the table, despite a dramatic decline of 20%, cycling topped the list in 2001 with 4.5 million individuals and in 2009 with 3.6 million individuals. The figure for swimming also witnessed a fall but to a lesser extent, decreasing from 3.7 million to 3.3 million during the same period.
Regarding the remaining activities, the highest population rate was recorded in running, at a 56% increase, skyrocketing from 1.4 million to 2.2 million between 2001 and 2009. Similarly, 1.5 million individuals participated in aerobics in 2001 while 1 million individuals took part in tennis. Then, by 2009, these figures rose to 1.7 and 1.2 million individuals, respectively.
