The table provides data on the changes in Hong Kong’s export values across five sectors between 2009 and 2010, measured in billions of Hong Kong dollars. Overall, total exports experienced a notable increase, with the most substantial growth observed in metals and telecommunications, whereas clothing and manufacturing saw significant declines.
Among the sectors, metals recorded the most dramatic rise, surging from HK$2.3 billion in 2009 to HK$5.1 billion in 2010, marking a 122% increase. Telecommunications also exhibited a substantial expansion, growing by 61% from HK$7.9 billion to HK$12.7 billion. Additionally, equipment exports rose by 13%, reaching HK$11.6 billion in 2010 compared to HK$10.3 billion in the previous year.
Conversely, both clothing and manufacturing experienced declines. Clothing exports fell by 17%, dropping from HK$6 billion to HK$5 billion, while manufacturing registered the sharpest contraction, decreasing by 27% from HK$5.5 billion to HK$4 billion. Despite these downturns, the overall export value increased from HK$32 billion to HK$38.4 billion, largely driven by the strong performance of the metals and telecommunications industries.
