The table illustrates the rate of distinct industries which are chosen by lawyers in a particular country between 2001 and 2016.
Overall, while the proportion of female lawyers increased in most of sectors, the percentage of male lawyers declined in goverment despite a slight growth in private lawyer and other industries.
In 2001, choosing goverment was the most preferable for male lawyers’ options which accounted for 45%, followed by other industries (26%). Moreover, private lawyer and business had the lowest shares with 15% and 14% perspectively. However, in 2016, the proportion of male opting for private lawyer and others increased by 3% although it decreased in goverment at 38% and remained unchanged in business.
For female lawyers, in 2001, goverment dominated the highest proportion with 41%, followed by others 28%, business 14%, and private lawyer 17%. Nevertheless, by 2016, private lawyer and business increased to 21%, similarly, goverment slightly increased by 4% but other industries experienced a slight decrease to 16%.
