The table demostrates monthly spendings of an average Australian family in 1991 and 2001.
Overall, it is evident that over the ten-year period prices on some goods changed. Some categories experienced significant growth and captured more percentage of budget, for example, water and electricity. Meanwhile, other items showed a decline, for instance, transport.
In 1991, an average household spent 675 Australian Dollar per month, paying 155 for meal, 75 for electricity and water, 30 for clothing, 95 for accomodation, 70 for trasport and 250 for other merchandises and services. Over the decade, the division of money changed. In 2001, an average family almost doubled it expediture on water and electricity to 120. In contrast, an minimal increase can be seen in spending on food and housing, as it rose only by 5 Australian Dollar to 160 and 100 in turn. Whereas clothing and transport expenses has remarkably deacreased to 20 and 45 dollar respectively, spending on other goods and services has modestly expanded by 20 dollar.
