The bar chart provides a breakdown of the number of Australian students studying in five different nations in three separate years: 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Overall, the student numbers in the USA, New Zealand, and the UK generally increased throughout the period, albeit to varying degrees, whereas the reverse was true for Germany and Japan. While the USA led the chart in 2006, New Zealand and the UK were not far behind, ranking second and third. Notably, both Germany and Japan returned to their initial positions in 2006.
The numbers of Australian students in the USA and New Zealand were almost on par in 2004, at around 2,600. Both then underwent increasing trends, with the USA surpassing New Zealand in 2006, with respective figures of roughly 2,900 and 2,700. The figure for the UK, meanwhile, plateaued at approximately 1,600 from 2005 onwards, having risen from 1,500 in 2004.
In contrast, the numbers of Australian students in Germany and Japan were almost similar at roughly 300 in 2004. Both of them then saw a slight dip to about 230 in 2005, before rebounding to their initial positions (300) in the end.
