The table indicates how many people worked in certain sectors in the UK in 1998 and in 2006. Some sectors have had substainal changes in both the age and the total numbers working.
Overall, the big differences were observed in the technology field. The number of middle-aged individuals increased in hotel and catering and education, while this statistic decreased in building section.
Moving to a deeper analysis, although the technology field was the smallest group in 1998 in each of the age groups, it became the largest in 2006. The 26-35 aged group had the most notable increase from 63889 to 454375. The opposite can be said about the building sector. The figure in this sector ranged between 5400 and 112565 between the age groups before declining to 3287-86430.
Regarding to the hotel and catering sector as well as the education section, the number of employees did not significantly change from 1998 to 2006. The one exception to that is 56-65 group working in education. The statistic of those people has dropped from 43647 to 23000.
