The table illustrates the percentage of grown-ups in 1990 and 2010 in urban and rural areas who took part in four leisure activities, such as reading, animated plays, playing and photography.
Overall, it is clear that in both years, the percentage of adults in rural areas was higher than adults in urban areas in all four activities with the exception of reading in 2010, standing at the same point. It is also notable that while most numbers of activities increased, animated plays in urban regions remained the same, and the percentage for animated plays in rural and playing in urban areas declined.
The percentage of adult individuals in reading stood the highest in both years, with 61% in urban and 71% in rural areas in 1990, and 78% for both areas in 2010. The differences between urban and rural areas participation of playing activities in 1990 was not high, accounting for 21% for urban and 26% for rural areas. However, the percentage of the former declined to 14%, while the percentage of the latter remained the same, being twice as high as urban regions.
Regarding animated plays, while the percentage for urban areas stood the same in both years, for urban centres dropped from 18% in 1990 to 14% in 2010. Finally, involvement of adults in photography in both regions increased by 10%, with being at 7% in 1990 and 17% in 2010 in urban regions, 14% in 1990 and 24% in 2010 in rural areas.
