The table illustrates the proportion of adults, who participated in four leisure activities in urban and rural areas, over the 20-year period between 1990 and 2010.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that reading was the most popular activity, while animated play and photography were the lowest in both areas.
Reading was the most visited activity, accounting for 61% of adults in urban areas and 71% in rural areas in 1990. This figure increased slightly over the next twenty years and reached the same proportions with 78% by 2010. In terms of playing, in urban areas the percentage of adults decreased from 21% to 14%, whereas in rural areas the trend held steady with 26% over the period in question.
As for the other two activities, photography rose steadily by 10% in urban and rural areas, reaching 17% and 24% respectively at the end of the period. The percentage of adults who attended animated play remained unchanged in urban areas over the period and fell marginally from 18% in 1990 to 14% in 2010.
