The table illustrates information about how often adults in the city and countryside participated in four free time activities from 1990 to 2010.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the percentage of urban and rural adults who were keen on reading and taking photos, while other activities witnessed a decline or stability. Additionally, the numbers of adults who spent their free time reading were consistently higher throughout the years.
Regarding urban adults, the proportion of reading was the highest, about 61% in 1990 and rose to 78% in 2000. Photography had the same trend with reading, but in 1990, the number of adults who chose to take photos in their leisure time was 7% (the lowest data in this year) and after 10 years, it increased by 10%. Starting at 10% in 1990 (higher than photography), animated play’ data remained unchanged until 2000. Playing was the only category that had a decrease in data, with 21% in 1990 and 14% in 2000.
In terms of rural adults, reading was still the most favourite hobby, accounting for 71% in 1990 and grew to the same data with urban adults’s. In addition, the percentages of photography increased the most, from 14% (1990) to 26% (2000). The rural adults’ interest in playing was stable between 1990 and 2000 with 26% in both years. However, the animated play experienced a slight decline from 18% in 1990 to 14% in 2000.
