The table compares the percentage of male and female workers in four different areas of employment in one country in 1986, 1996 and 2006. Overall, the percentage of both genders worked in banking and education industries increased to varying degree, while the reverse was observed in manufacturing industry. Notably, despite rise in the proportion of men working in catering industry, for women the figure remained stable.
Regarding the male workers, the percentage of the catering employees went up noticeably from 16% in 1986 to 22% in 1996. This figure then remained unchanged in 2006. The share of men working in the banking industry increased markedly from 11% to 21% in two decades. Similarly, education industry experienced rise from 13% in 1986 by 2 percentage-point in 2006. However, the figure for the manufacturing saw its figure go down remarkably from 32% to 21% in 1986 and 2006 respectively.
As for the female workers, the figure for the catering workers did not change in the given period, standing at 26%. While the percentage of women working in banking industry climbed from 12% in 1986 to 19% in 2006, the share of the female manufacturing industry workers underwent significant decrease from 18% to 6%. In contrast, the percentage of the education female employees saw rise from 33% to 38%.
