The table illustrates the percentage of male and female lawyers choosing jobs in four different fields(Private Lawyer, Business,Government and Others) from 2001 to 2016.
Overall,it can be seen that government jobs were the most popular choice for both male and female in both years.Private lawyer and business became more popular over the period,while the percentage of women working in other fields decreased significantly.
In 2001,15% of male lawyers and 17% of female lawyers worked as private lawyers.By 2016, these numbers increased to 19% and 21% respectively. In the business field,the propotion of men remained stable at 14%,meanwhile the figure for women rose considerably from 14% to 21%.
Government jobs accounted for the largest share of lawyers. In 2001, 45% of men and 41% of women chose this field. However,these percentages fell to 38% for males and 42% for females in 2016. As for other jobs,the propotion of male lawyers rose slightly from 26% to 29%,while the percentage of male declined significantly from 28% to 16%.
