The table compares the proportion of people from the UK having an interest in six sports between 1990 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that there was an increase in the preference for rugby, swimming, and cricket over the period, while football, golf, and judo showed an opposite trend. Additionally, football remained the most loved sport, whereas Judo was the least.
Regarding the increasing sports, the figure for rugby started at 12%, after which it rose considerably to 20% in 2000, and ended at 24% in 2010. As for cricket, despite having the same percentage as rugby, it stayed unchanged over the next ten years before concluding at 14% in the end. Starting at 15% in 1990, swimming saw a rise with some fluctuations, peaking at 18% in 2000 before dropping to 16% in 2010.
Concerning the remaining sports, 59% of the British were keen on football in 1990, which was twice as much as golf and far exceeded the others; the figure then declined gradually until the end, reaching 56% in 2010. The proportion of UK residents enjoying golf witnessed a similar changing pattern of the first 10 years to cricket, plateauing at 28% in the first decade but fell to 26% by 2010. Finally, Judo began at 9% in 1990, with a subsequent drop to 5% and 4% in 2000 and 2010, respectively.
