The table gives information about the proportion of people in the UK being interested in six sports in three different decades.
Overall, it is clear that the popularity of rugby, cricket and swimming increased over the period, while that of football, golf and judo showed a downward trend. It is also notable that football remained the most preferred sport, whereas the opposite was the case for Judo.
Regarding the rising activities, the percentage of swimming in 1990 started 15%, which was greater than both rugby and cricket, at 12%, respectively. Thereafter, rugby increased significantly to 20% in 2000, after which it continued going up and ended at 24% in 2010. As for cricket, it remained relatively stable over the next decade, before experiencing a slight rise to 14% by the end of the period. Swimming also increased to 18% in the first decade, followed by a fall to 16% in 2010.
As for the decreasing sports, 59% of UK people were keen on playing football, which doubled to that of golf. The figure for football fell gradually until the end, reaching 56% in 2010 while golf stayed unchanged in the first decade then experienced a fall, ending up at 26%. Finally, Judo began at 9% in 1990, with a considerable drop to 5% and 4% in 2000 and 2010, respectively.
