The diagram illustrates how much secondary/ high school teachers earned in five different countries in 2009.
Overall, teachers in Luxembourg earned the highest salaries but it took quite a long time for them to reach the top salary. In contrast, those in Australia and Denmark had the lowest salary range and achieved the maximum income in the shortest time.
Teachers in Luxembourg recorded the highest starting income, at 80,000 USD. After 15 years, this number increased dramatically to 119,000 USD . Additionally, it took them 30 years to reach the top salary of 132,000 USD. Following this, teachers in Denmark and Australia could earn 54,000 USD and 48,000 USD respectively after 15 years and these numbers were also the maximum salary they could achieve. But teachers in these countries can earn the top salaries within the shortest time ( 8 to 9 years).
Turning to Japan and Korea, these countries had lower initial salaries, with 34,000 USD for the average teacher in Korea and 30,000 USD in Japan. After 15 years, there was a significant increase in the teacher’s salaries in both countries, rising to 65,000 USD and 48,000 USD respectively. However, it took both nations the longest time—37 years in Japan and 34 years in Korea—to reach the maximum salary.
