The table compares the ten most populated countries in 2019 and gives a prediction for the year 2100. All numbers are measured in millions of people.
Overall, China and India had the largest populations in 2019, but by 2100 India is expected to become the most populated country. Another noticeable change is that several African countries such as Nigeria, D.R. Congo, Ethiopia and Tanzania are predicted to rise in the ranking, while countries like Russia and Mexico will drop out of the top ten.
In 2019, China had the biggest population at 1,439 million, followed by India with 1,380 million. The USA was in third place with 331 million. Other countries in the top 10 included Indonesia (274m), Pakistan (221m), Brazil (213m), Nigeria (206m), Bangladesh (165m), Russia (146m) and Mexico (129m).
However, by 2100, India is expected to reach 1,551 million, becoming the largest. China is projected to fall to second place with 941 million. Nigeria is predicted to grow significantly to 730 million, rising to third place. On the other hand, Russia and Mexico are no longer in the top ten by 2100.
