The table illustrates the percentage of male and female workers in four employment sectors over the period of 20 years, from 1990 to 2010.
Overall, it is clear that the percentage of men in manufacturing consistently outstripped that of women during the 20-year period; meanwhile, in Tourism, the figure for females was higher than males. Moreover, the proportion of two genders relatively increased in Health, excepting the percentage of men in Retail, it remained stable over the period.
Regarding the figure for men, in Retail and Tourism, it started from the same figure, at 13%, the former was seen unchanged (13%), while the latter gradually declined from 13% to 10%. Looking at the proportion of men in Manufacturing, it significantly fall from 30% to 10%, whilst the figure for men in Health rose to 9% at the end of the period.
The percentage of females rose marginally from 7% to 9% in Retail and 9% to 15% in Health. As for the figure for women in Tourism, which was the highest category among other types, its data increased slightly from 23% to 27%. By contrast, there was a marginal fluctuation in the percentage of females in Manufacturing, which rose by 1% before witnessing a drop to 3% in 2010.
