The table provides information on water consumption in the domestic, agricultural and industrial sectors across six countries. Water consumption is measured in cubic metres (m³).
Overall, Australia had the highest domestic water consumption, whereas Russia used the most water for agricultural purposes. In terms of industrial water use, Canada recorded the highest figure among the six countries.
Looking first at domestic water consumption, Australia recorded by far the highest figure, at 341 m³, followed by Canada at 279 m³. The figures for Russia and Turkey were considerably lower, at 98 m³ and 80 m³ respectively, while the UK and China recorded the lowest levels, at just 38 m³ and 26 m³. In terms of industrial use, Canada had the highest consumption, at 832 m³, followed by Turkey at 731 m³. By comparison, the figures for Australia and the UK were much lower, at 276 m³ and 398 m³ respectively, while China and Russia recorded only 71 m³ and 56 m³.
Turning to agricultural water consumption, Russia recorded the highest figure by a considerable margin, at 1,863 m³. Turkey and Canada followed, with 1,482 m³ and 1,238 m³ respectively. The figures for the UK and China were considerably lower and stood at 810 m³ and 806 m³, while Australia had the lowest agricultural consumption, at 741 m³. Overall, agricultural use was the largest category in every country shown.
