The table displays data about independent film releases in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland in 2012 based on genres.
Overall, Drama and Documentary had the biggest number of releases. However, it was Comedy, followed by Horror, which showed the largest income from ticket sales.
The three most popular genres were Drama, Documentary, and Comedy. While the first two were released for 35 times each, representing 23.6 shares of all the releases that year, Comedy had only slightly lower statistic with the number of 26 produced films and 17.6% of all the cinematography. Then came Horror and Thriller, and despite Horror exceeded Thriller by only one released movie, it still indicated a bigger proportion in the whole picture. In contrast, Biopic was represented just by one film and seven tenth of all directed pictures, showing the smallest result and being slightly outnumbered by Crime, Action, Romance, and Others.
In spite of being the third most released genre, Comedy provided the biggest income with 45.4 shares with Horror diverging by roughly a half. Interestingly, that one Biopic film had the third biggest earnings with 9.1% of all, overtopping Drama by 0.8% and being three times higher Documentary. Nevertheless, the least significant income belonged to Romance with a little less than 1 percentage of the whole number.
In conclusion, the number of releases did not have a pivotal role when it came to incomes. Comedy was the most popular among people, while studios turned to Drama and Documentary.
