The table compares department stores and online stores in Australia in 2011.
Overall, the table shows that online stores outperformed department stores in all categories.
To begin with, the number of businesses was considerably higher for online stores, with 369 compared to only 67 department stores. This indicates that online retail was already more prevalent than traditional department stores at that time. Furthermore, the profit (in AUD) generated by online stores was slightly higher than that of department stores, at 863 million and 807 million dollars respectively.
In terms of sales revenue, the figures were relatively close. Online businesses earned 13,400 AUD, whereas department stores recorded 12,700 AUD, a difference of only 700 AUD. However, the most notable difference is in the growth rate. Online stores experienced a 6% increase, which was considerably higher than the 4% growth recorded for department stores.
