By 2009, New Zealand was the most popular destination with 1,064,000 tourists, an increase of 113%. The number of visitors to the United Kingdom and the United States rose moderately: the United Kingdom received 640,000 tourists, and the United States had 400,000. Meanwhile, Indonesia, Fiji, and Japan also reported significant growth in visitors, to 340,000, 257,000, and 250,000 tourists, respectively. Finally, China recorded the sharpest increase, growing by 249% to reach 300,000 visitors.
