Overall, football was the most popular sport throughout the period, although its popularity gradually declined. In contrast, tennis, golf, and yoga became more popular throughout the given period, while basketball experienced a slight decline.
In 1999, football had the highest proportion compared with other sports, at 57%. Other huge proportion was swimming’s with 32%, and basketball gave slightly high compared to other sports, with 26%. In contrast, tennis, golf, and yoga were lower compared with basketball, at 25%, 8%, and 10%. Volleyball was 17%.
In 2004, interest in football fell to 52%, whereas swimming rose slightly to 34%. Tennis also surged significantly from 25% to 30%, and volleyball also increased to 20%. However, interests in basketball declined noticeably to 25%. Golf saw a slight raise from 8% to 13%; but, interest in yoga stayed unchanged at10%.
By 2009, football accounted for the largest share of sport interests, at 48%, and tennis raised slightly from 30% to 33%, whereas interest in swimming plateaued at 34%. While yoga and golf increased marginally to 13% and 17% respectively. Whereas, interests in basketball and volleyball also declined marginally to 24% and 18%.
