The table compares the proportion of tourists from the United Kingdom visiting Spain in two different years. (1981 and 2015) and categorizing the age of visitors to Spain.
Overall, it is striking that the share of younger and older visitors increased significantly, while the middle-aged visitors experienced a whopping decline.
In 1981, the 25-35 age group accounted for the highest percentage of UK visitors (50%), but this figure dropped significantly to 32% in 2015. Similarly, the share of tourists aged 35-45 fell from 22% to 12%. This indicates a reduced interest in Spain among middle-aged travelers.
Conversely, the percentage of visitors aged 16-24 grew almost fourfold, from 4% in 1981 to 15% in 2015. A similar upward trend was observed in the 55+ age group, which increased from 16% to 25%, making it the second-largest category in 2015. Meanwhile, the proportion of children (0-15) remained relatively stable, rising only slightly from 10% to 12%.
