In 1989, there were about 1,100 jobs in restaurants and 1,050 in hotels. Sport and leisure had around 900 jobs, while travel and tours had the lowest figure, at about 800.
In 1994, hotel jobs increased to around 1,400, which was the highest number among all industries. Restaurant jobs also rose to about 1,300. Travel and tours increased to just over 1,000 jobs, but sport and leisure fell to around 700.
From 1999 to 2004, the number of jobs in restaurants continued to rise and reached a peak of about 1,600. However, jobs in hotels, sport and leisure, and travel and tours decreased. By 2009, restaurant jobs had fallen to around 1,300. Hotel jobs were about 1,050, while sport and leisure and travel and tours dropped to around 700 and 400 respectively.
