The given figure gives information about how many mobile phones were sold in five different brands in millions from 2006 to 2012.
From an overall perspective, the figures for most brands fluctuated, except for Samsung and Apple. In addition, the portion of phones sold by Nokia was the highest for all of the years until it was overtaken by Samsung.
As can be seen, in 2006, Nokia’s phone sales ranked first at 345 million, roughly two times higher than Samsung, at 117 million. In the next two years, there was a significant fall in the number of cell phones sold by Motorola to 108 million, followed by that by Ericsson and Apple, respectively at 95 million and 12 million.
In 2010, Apple’s mobile phones sales were the same as Ericsson, at 42 million, which was 3 million higher than Motorola. Then, the number of phones sold by Ericsson was the lowest, which was a tenth of that by Samsung, at roughly 330 million. Furthermore, the last year witnessed a dramatic growth by approximately 397 million in Samsung’s phone sales, while the sales of Ericsson were as high as that of Motorola, at 28 million.
