Regarding two phone brands that became popular during the period, in 2006, the number of Samsung phones sold accounted for 117 million, after which it significantly rose over the next six years and the company sold 396.5 million phones in 2012. Despite starting with no sales in 2006, Apple skyrocketed over the remaining of the period to reach 135.8 million phones sold in the final year.
Concerning the remaining brands, Nokia topped sales in 2006 with 345 million phones, continuing to increase to 422 million in 2011 before dramatically dropping to 335 million phones in 2012. There was a remarkable decline in the sales of Motorola phones, which decreased from 210 million in 2006 to only 28 million in 2012. With 74 million phones sold in the first year, Ericsson reached its peak of 102 million phones sold in the next year; after that, it experienced a noticeable decrease to 28 million in 2012.
