The table demonstrates how many mobile phones were sold from 2006 to 2012 by five companies.
On the one hand, Apple and Samsung exhibited an increasing trend, while Motorola and Ericsson lost their huge share in the mobile phone sector. Apple made its entrance into the industry in 2007 and rapidly increased its numbers from 2.3 million to 135.8 million and became the third biggest company in the industry according to the number of mobile phones sold. Similarly, Samsung soared its numbers from 117 million to 396.5 million and became the biggest in the industry in 2012.
On the other hand, Ericsson and Motorola became the least preferred brands in the sector. They lost too many customers in this period. Both dipped to 28 million in 2012. Ericsson and Motorola’s number of mobile phones sold decreased from 74 million and 210 million to 28 million each, respectively, from 2006 to 2012. While Ericsson lost about two-thirds of its sales, Motorola’s loss was devastating; its sales disappeared by six-sevenths. While all these dramas kept going, Nokia maintained its sales. At first, Nokia’s sales increased for a while from 2006 to 2008, its sales reached its maximum with the sales of 475 million, then gradually decreased to 335 million in 2012, and came as the second biggest after Samsung in 2012.
