The table illustrates the number of visitors to the UK from their home countries and their modes of travel in two years: 2015 and 2021. A total of seven countries utilized air and tunnel travel to reach the UK, and the number of users of these travel modes has changed over the years.
Focusing on air travel, we observe significant differences in passenger numbers between 2015 and 2021. The number of passengers from Germany and France saw the most substantial increases in 2021 compared to the other five countries. Generally, all countries, with the exception of Portugal, experienced growth in passenger numbers in 2021; only the number of Portuguese passengers declined during this period.
Another popular mode of travel chosen by visitors to the UK was the tunnel. French travelers registered the highest numbers for this mode of transport. In contrast, passenger numbers from the remaining countries – excluding Sweden – did not increase in 2021 when it came to tunnel travel. Meanwhile, the visitor numbers from the other six countries showed a rise in tunnel usage over the years.
