The table displays data on how many universities are placed within the world’s top 200 universities for three particular subjects in five countries in 2011.
Overall, the USA had more prestigious universities for all three subjects than other countries. It was distantly followed by the United Kingdom, whereas New Zealand and Canada recorded lower numbers of the top-ranked universities. Meanwhile, Australia showed quite moderate numbers, being in third place among five countries.
Starting with the highest figures in the table, the USA and the UK had the highest number of internationally recognized universities, having 69 and 30 universities in the biology field, respectively. The figures for Medicine and Psychology were also quite high in the USA, standing at 54 and 58, whereas the UK accounted for 24 and 29 universities for those areas.
Looking specifically at smaller numbers, Australia was considered as one of the lowest figures in the table, with only 17 psychological universities, which is the most widespread type of university in this country. Additionally, New Zealand had only two medical universities, making it the lowest among all countries. Canada also recorded varying degrees, representing 12 and 14 universities for medicine and psychology. Unfortunately, the number of universities specializing in Biology was below ten in this country.
