The tables illustrate the sales figures of Fairtrade-labeled tea and pineapples in 2010 and 2015 in five European nations.
Overall, the five countries generally recorded growth in sales of both products, with the exception of Norway’s and Germany’s pineapple sales, both of which decreased. Additionally, while France exceeded Austria as the top tea seller in 2015, Austria led pineapple sales in both years.
Regarding tea sales, France increased over eightfold from 2.5 million euros in 2010 to 21 in 2015, surpassing Austria (which doubled from 4 to 8 million euros over the same period) to top this category. In contrast, Germany and Norway rose by just 0.2 million euros to 3 and 2 million euros in 2015, respectively. The Netherlands experienced a sharper sales increase, from 2 to 2.7 million euros.
In terms of pineapple sales, Austria tripled from 16 million euros in 2010 to 48 in 2015, the steepest growth of both categories. Despite having lower sales, France and the Netherlands also grew substantially (from 2 to 6.5 and 1.6 to 5 over the same period). Conversely, although Germany and Norway initially achieved higher sales (3 and 2.8) compared to the previous two countries, both decreased modestly to around 2 million euros by 2015, marking the lowest sales of all five countries.
Overall, combined pineapple sales were considerably higher than tea, with Austria contributing the most to the margin.
