The illustrations provide a comparative analysis of a West Irish town’s layout in two distinct periods, 2000 and the present day, highlighting key modifications.
From an overall perspective, the village has undergone substantial transformations, most remarkably with the removal of some features coupled with the introduction of more residential facilities.
In 2000, it was evident that there was a large area of farmland lying to the northwest of the town. Additionally, a long road extended south, right of which lay a row of shops and some housing units, while a hotel could be found on the remaining side. Finally, at the intersection of the roads, a market was situated, facing the dock on the opposite side.
Concerning the changes made afterward, it is noteworthy that the previous farmland on the top left-hand corner of the map has been converted into a park. Another striking feature is the increased number of houses on both sides of the road alongside the construction of the new car park located in the eastern area. Further south, while the market and the dock were demolished to make way for some restaurants, the shops and the hotel have retained their original locations during the given period.
