Given are the maps illustrating the development of Dalton town over 200 years from 1815 to 2015.
Overall, it is evident that the town has become more residential-friendly. While there was scattered housing and farmland in 1815, the town has been improved with more amenities to meet the rising population’s demand in 2015.
In 1815, along the river’s branch running across the town was Dalton forest, which held a majority of the area. Furthermore, on the right side of the branch, it was scarcely populated with a farm in the northeast, whereas the other side was forested.
However, Dalton underwent urbanization with many notable adjustments in the following 200 years. Specifically, on the left riverbank, all the trees were cut down for the construction of an industrial zone as well as a hospital. Besides, the right riverside turned into a residential area, with the farm demolished for an airport, and a new school was built. Additionally, both sides were connected with a bridge, which was an improvement in transportation infrastructure, to facilitate commuting.
