The pictures illustrate how Dalton town transformed between 1815 and 2015.
From an overall perspective, Dalton changed from a rural and farming-based region to a more urbanized and industrial-based area. Additionally, the most noticeable alterations included the addition of public facilities, the improvement of traffic infrastructures and the elimination of forest and farm to cater to the increasing demand for employment, education, housing and mobility.
During the period, a river ran from the north to the south, divided the town into two pieces. More specifically, the western part which mainly covered with Daltion forest in 1815, underwent rapid development, with the majority of the forest being cleared for accommodation located in the northwest while a new hospital and factories were established to the east and the south of the residential zone, respectively. Notably, a new modern bridge was constructed, replaced the simple ford which was used to cross the river.
Conerning the eastern region, the original farmland and green space along the river were replaced with expanded housing. A new school was introduced at the centre to serve the growing population and a new hotel was added to support tourism. Besides, an airport was built in the southeast to meet Dalton’s travel demands. Finally, all locations in Dalton town were connected through a comprehensive traffic system by 2015.
