The maps give a breakdown of the changes that took place in the town of Westley since the year 1815.
Overall, the area has undergone intense urbanization, and many of the natural and agricultural sites have been cleared in favor of new facilities like a train track and new residential areas.
In 1815, Westley had many fields in the bottom left corner of the map. But those fields, along with the Twine Toll Bridge and a section of the road leading to London, have been demolished, and a railway was built in their place. The Lenton Woods was also chopped down to build the Lenton Housing Estate, and the old residential area behind the town hall was expanded into the business and residential areas.
Lord Westley’s house was demolished, and in its place, the Red Lion and the Lenton Hotel were erected. Some new entertainment facilities, like a sports center, a museum, a shopping center, and a cinema, were also constructed in the area. Despite these major changes, some aspects of Westley, such as Lake Lenton, Tinton villages, the River Twine, the market square, and the town hall, remained intact.
