Two maps depict the evolution of the Lakeside area over a nine-year period, from 2000 to 2009.
Overall, the Lakeside area underwent substantial development, with several existing areas being removed and expanded, and a number of new facilities being added. Also, it was notable that the lake was reduced in size and eventually becoming a pond.
In 2000, focusing on the area to the north of the river, there were two residential areas, one being located in the north-western and another closer to the river. To the north-east part of the area, derelict warehouses and old town and between residential areas were located arts centre and school. On the other hand, to the south of the river were only industrial complex and residental area.
After following years, the residental area was solely located on the north-western, with being surronded by car park, offices, and university that specificially located nex to the woodland and multiscrreen cinema and school along the south-east side. While the new shopping centre was added to the north of the river, the industrial complex was expanded on the south of the river.
