The two maps depict evolutions in the Lakeside area from 2000 to 2009.
Overall, the Lakeside underwent a significant transformation, with the most notable one being the expansion of industrial complex, and the demolition of old structures to make way for modern facilities such as shopping centre , car park and university was also recorded.
In 2000, the northern part of Lakeside was occupied by derelict warehouses, which were transformed into a small car park by 2009. To the same direction, an old school was demolished to accommodate in the construction of offices. While the remaining space was subsequently ulitisied for the erection of the university , the nearby school and a residential area adjecent to the old schold in the northwestern region remained unchanged during the period. In addition, a residential area and arts centre formerly situated in the western corner of the map were replaced by the shopping centre and multi- screen cinema, respectively.
Regarding the southeastern side of the map, industrial complex had been enlarged and redeveloped after the removal of a residential area and the shrinkage of woodland. Particularly, a river runs through the area from west to east surrounded by woodland, dividing the region into two parts. By 2009, the woodland had been reduced in size, and the lake was diminished and converted into a smaller pond.
