The given inforgraphics illustrate the proportion of the Turkish economy in two different time frame of 2010 and 2016.
Overall, during both time frame, the biggest contributors to the economy of Turkey were the “agriculture”, “trade, utilities, & construction”, the “healthcare & education”, and the “leisure & hospitality” sectors. Furthermore, the most notable differences during the 16 years period were the decrease of the agriculture section and the rise of the construction industry.
Taking a closer look at the industries that contributed the most to Turkey’s economy, it is clear that Medical & educational services contribution remained the same at 17%. Recreational activities and hospitality services saw a slight decrease, going from 17% to 14%. However, the reverse was true for the trades and transportation sectors, starting at 14% in 2010 which then increased by 2% in the following 16 years. The most significant shook up was in the “agriculture” sectors. At first, it made up almost one fourth of the entire country’s economy, but by 2016, this number saw an enormous 10% decrease, ending at 14%.
Moving on to the last 4 contributors, the financial department and the manufacturing industry started at 5% and 8% respectively, and by 2016, both of these sectors experienced an 3% boost. A more drastic increase resided in the construction services who contributed the least in 2010 at only 3%. Despite this, this figure more than tripled by 2016, ending at 10%. The only sectors that saw a drop was in the governmental activities which decreased by 3% when compared to 2010 to finish up at 9%.
