The pie charts provide a comparative overview of Turkey’s economic composition in 2000 and 2016. A clear shift in the economic landscape is evident over this period.
In 2000, agriculture was the dominant sector, contributing nearly a quarter of the economy, while construction had a minimal impact. In contrast, by 2016, the healthcare and education sector emerged as the largest contributor, surpassing all others. Simultaneously, the contribution of finance, business, and other services remained the smallest.
A notable trend is the significant growth of the construction sector, expanding from a mere 3% in 2000 to 10% in 2016. While agriculture declined from 24% to 14%, the service sector, encompassing trade, utilities, and transportation, experienced modest growth. Manufacturing and finance also witnessed increases.
Despite overall economic changes, the healthcare and education sector maintained a steady contribution of 17% throughout the period. Conversely, both government and leisure & hospitality sectors experienced a decline of 3% from their 2000 levels.
