Dear Elena,

Firstly I hope everything is okay.

I’m writing to you as I’d like to help with your academic project with an introduction of how people across different countries celebrate their new year.

In consideration to my country where I am currently based. New Year is one of the most important holidays for people as it’s the beginning of a new life and a chance to have a fresh start. People usually go to temples and pray to the Buddha for the reason that they believe this god might give them a sense of energy. One of the most important parts of this celebration is to give a prayer to God and show respect.

It’s interesting that we always celebrate the new year by pouring water onto other people on the streets. This tradition attracts many tourists around the world who can also join the party and celebrate with us. People go on the streets and use water pistols or cups to pour water on people they may not know. The streets are similar to a battle arena where it’s difficult to remain dry.

I have a wonderful feeling about this celebration as it is an important factor towards Thai culture.In contrast to different cultures that make it more interesting and give you the opportunity to smile more. The factor that I adore the most is the atmosphere that you feel in the crowded streets and the opportunity to have more freedom on this day.
