The given graphs illustrate value changes in steel industry and the quantity of people who worked in UK from 1970 to 2000.
Overall, while total demand and productions of steel in UK both decreased, steel imports increased moderately. Additionally, UK witnessed a downtrend in the number of workers in this industry over the 30-years period.
In 1970, UK accounted for 50,000 employments in steel industry before experiencing a substantial fall of 10,000 in 1980. Moreover, 10 years later, this figure has been halved. In the end of the period, a slight decline to roughly 17,000 was seen in the quantity of steel workers.
Regarding to second graph, both total demand and productions were particularly high in 1970, at 200,000 ton and over 150,000 ton respectively. At the same time, steel import began nearly zero during the period. For the next 20 years, there was a considerable decrease in production to approximately 90,000 tons, but later fell by nearly 10,000 tons. During the same period, demand also declined to 100,000 tons. There was a slight rise in the value change of
steel import to 50,000 tons in 1990. In addition, this figure also went up significantly and was almost equal to production.
