Overall, New York City emerges a clear dominance over the 200-year period that can be observeable from the first table., whereas Manhattan gained declination residents over time, while outer districts increased significantly by 2000.
In 1800, New York city had a relatively small population of just 79,216. The heaviest pencentage of population in 1800 was showed by Manhattan for 76%, in contrast other districts merely hold 24%, or 18,701.
By 1900, all-combined districts hold a termendous rapidly number to over 3.4 million. Manhattan remained the largest district with 1.85 million people, even though its propotion fell off by 22% to 54% of the total share. Meanwhile, other districts grown rapidly to 46% of total, around 1.5 million.
In 2000, The entire city population passed 8 million head. However, Manhattan’s population declined slightly to about 1.54 million people, suprisingly making its only 19% of the total. On the other hand, the previous small districts faced a significant growth, along with their population increasing to nearly 6.5 million, or 81%, therefore becoming the dominant residents areas.
