Dear Mom and Dad,
I hope my letter finds you well. I deeply apologize for me not being able to get in touch with you sooner. The purpose of this message is to clarify the severe concerns you have regarding my partner. To be perfectly honest, this matter of fact has been bothering me for a while.
We want to settle down, therefore – as far as I know – he wants to propose to me this winter. Quite astonishing, I know. After the engagement, we plan to get married next summer. We have already discussed our future extensively and feel confident about taking this step together.
Although I can understand that you are simply trying to protect me, I am significantly disturbed by the fact that you are prejudiced against his commitment and condemn him without knowing his genuine personality. I find it particularly upsetting that you formed such a negative opinion without a real impression. The fact that he is a musician does not make him irresponsible or unsuitable for me. Likewise, I fail to see why not having a university degree should determine someone’s worth or ability to build a successful future.
He always treated me with respect and has been my greatest supporter thus I expect you to show acceptance. I would suggest that we all have dinner together. This way you could get to know him properly, and I am convinced that spending some quality time together would make a major difference.
I sincerely hope that you can understand where I am coming from. I hope we can put this conflict behind us and move forward as a family.
Love,
Szofi
