The presented line graph depicts comparative data of time taken to fabricate an automobile by four US-based car companies, namely Nissan, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors and Ford from 1998 through 2002.
At the first glance, it is clear, that all of the car producers decreased in 2002. At the begging, Ford had taken the least amount of hours, while holding the leadership, then Nissan experienced the most dramatic reduction, eventually becoming the fastest manufacturer.
In 1998, Nissan had the highest figure at about 37 hours per vehicle. However, this number drop sharply to approximately 30 hours in 1999, and then fell significantly to around 24 hours in 2000. The downward trend remained until the end, reaching nearly 21 hours by 2002, which made Nissan the most efficient automaker among the four companies.
As shown in the illustration, General Motors declined gradually from 32 hours in 1998 to nearly 24 hours in 2002. Meanwhile, the Daimler Chrysler showed a moderate decline, falling from 34 hours in 1998 to about 28 hours by the end of the period, although it still recorded the highest production time compared with the other manufacturers.
By comparison, Ford’s production time remained relatively steady, fluctuating slightly between 25 and 27 hours per vehicle. It reached its own peak in 2001 before going down slightly in the final year.
