Dear Chris,
I’m writing to let you know about the basic rigging training I attended last week. It was just a two day course but it was packed with a lot of usefull information.
On the first day, we were taught about what to look out for when selecting lifting gears like slings and chains just to mention few. I noticed there were critical areas I wasn’t looking for during my pre-use inspection on these gears whenever I happened to use them. I wasn’t paying much attention to the chain links which are very critical areas to look out for when inspecting these types of equipment because some of them could elongate due to shock-loading or using for the wrong purpose such as pulling instead of using a chain that is design for that purpose.
The second day was a bit more hands-on than the first as we had to do a lot of lifting than just inspecting lifting equipment. We were taught how to select the correct lifting points, how to calculate the approximate weight of a load with an irregular shape before lifting so that we are not exeeding the safe working limit of the lifting equipment and the crane, and finally we lifted a number of steel column and concrete slaps from one point to another
I would recommend this training to you as it equips you with more knowledge than what I have described in this letter and informs you more about how to do safely
kind regards,
Belde Archer
