Dear Friend’s,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing with a heavy heart regarding the [item name, e.g., “vintage wristwatch”] you kindly lent me last week. I truly appreciated your trust in letting me borrow it, knowing how much it means to you.

Unfortunately, while I was wearing it during a meeting, I accidentally knocked it against a metal railing. The glass face cracked, and the mechanism seems to have stopped working. I was devastated when it happened and immediately regretted not being more careful.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the damage. I understand how valuable and sentimental the item is, and I feel terrible for causing this situation. It was never my intention, and I take full responsibility.
