The highest proportion of monetary expenditure from tourists was 12 billion in around 1996, followed by the amount in 2006, which was approximately 11.5 billion pounds. The lowest amount of money spent by visitors was around 7 billion pounds in 1982. Eventually fluctuating to between 11 billion and 10.5 billion pounds in 2010.
The main purpose of visits remained the same in both 1980 and 2010, the category being holiday. Although the percentage dropped from 44.1% IN 1980 TO 39.1% IN 2010.
