Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The presented graph and table show consumption of water resources. Overall, the graph illustrates the significant growth of water consumption by sector from 1900 to 2000 but the table shows the volume of water consumption per person in Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Agriculture was the crucial sector therefore the consumption of water resources was higher than the other sectors. Between 1900 and 1940, in agriculture sector was observed the smooth growth of water use from 500 to 1000 km3. Then the water consumption in agriculture sector tripled by the end of 2000. Industrial and domestic uses had the equal level of consumption at 100 km3 by 1940. The volume of water use in industrial sector increased by 1200 km3, whereas the volume of water consumption in domestic use grew only by 100 km3 by 2000.

The Brazil’s population was 176 million people and water consumption were 359 m3 per person. The number of people in Democratic Republic of Congo was only 5.2 million people compared to Brazil. The volume of water use in Congo was less than in Brazil and there was 8 km3 per person. Irrigated land in Brazil and Congo were 26500 km2 and 100 km2 respectively.
